Inhalers could potentially be used to treat Covid-19.

The International Society for Aerosols has released an appeal to clinics and politicians to increasingly take inhaled dosage forms into account when fighting Covid-19. The association emphasizes the potential of treating the infectious disease via inhalation, since the virus initially affects the respiratory tract.

ISAM proposes, among other things, measures for accelerated testing and approval of active substances for inhalation applications that are already administered orally or systemically. A large number of established devices could potentially be used for treatment. Harro Höfliger supplies technology for the assembly of many of them, including Soft Mist Inhalers and Dry Powder Inhalers.

The aim of ISAM, founded in 1970, is to promote interdisciplinary collaboration and information exchange in the field of medical aerosol research.
